Mini Golf

Teaching Design Thinking - Case Study

In 2017 I was selected by Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc. to teach a class of high school students from Baltimore Design School.

With support from FutureMakers, and their architecture instructor Name Here, I lead the students in a Miniature Golf project adhering to the Engineering Design process of "ask, imagine, plan, create, improve".

The goal of the project was to design and produce two themed mini golf holes to launch later that summer at Artscape 2017.

Prototype design critique

Throughout the program I often had students break up into groups for prototyping. This process challenged them to carefully consider both the aesthetic and architectural components of their designs.

As new materials were introduced, the students would revise and iterate on their original designs. With the middle of the program approaching, the class settled on a Video Games as the themes of their mini golf holes.

After many stages of thoughtful critiques, several designs were filtered down to just two mini golf holes. The final designs, titled "Kongs Revenge" and "Green Hill Zone Remix", were translated by a team at Gensler, and fabricated by Open Works in Station North.
